Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Author verifies submission is not previously published or before another journal for consideration.
  • Author declares that this is their original work and has been written by all stated authors.
  • Author secures all permissions and attributes third-party materials in their manuscript.
  • Author submits a Microsoft Word file following the author guidelines provided by IPBE.
  • Author provides tables made in Microsoft Word, figures as vector files, and images as TIFF files.
  • Author uses Harvard referencing format for in-text citations and references.
  • Author makes supplemental materials available for review.

Author Guidelines

Submission Categories

Original Findings: Full report of original research that includes introduction, methods, results, discussion, and conclusions. Limit to 8000 words, excluding references.

Short Communications: Brief report from original research that addresses data or findings in need of rapid dissemination. Limit to 2000 words, excluding references.

Reviews: Comprehensive summary or critical evaluation of a topic within IPBE’s scope with a unique perspective on the state of the art. Limit to 8000 words, excluding references.

Registered Reports: Methods and analyses are proposed, pre-registered, and reviewed before research is undertaken. See Registered Reports for more information.

Format

Manuscript formatting guidelines can be found in the IPBE submission guide. A submission template (MS Word) is available upon request. Please email the technical editor.

Language

Manuscripts must be written in English. British and American English are both acceptable; however, the choice should be consistent throughout the text: https://www.thepunctuationguide.com/british-versus-american-style.html

IPBE recommends manuscripts be reviewed by a colleague and copy edited before submission. 

Plagiarism

Manuscript submissions are reviewed for plagiarism; if detected (even unintentional), COPE’s “Suspected plagiarism in a submitted manuscript” guidance will be followed.
